The League of United Latin American Citizens Council No. 263 hosted its 31st annual scholarship reception TBA 2020, at the MCM Elegante Hotel. The reception started at 6 p.m. The keynote speaker LULAC State Director, Rudy Rosales. National, state, local, Fifteen $1,000 scholarships were awarded. Students, families and the community were invited. A special Recognition was provided by Lubbock City Council Member, Juan Chadis, Dist. 1. Christy Martinez-Garcia, VP for Youth, served as emcee.
SENIOR CHRISTMAS DINNER
Annually, LULAC Council #263 hold their annual Senior Citizens Christmas Dinner. This year, the event will be held on TBA December 2020, at the Maggie Trejo Supercenter, located at 3200 Amherst. Dinner will be served at 6 p.m. Pancho Clos will arrive at 7:30 p.m. and the dance will be held from 8 to 10 p.m.
Each year LULAC councils throughout the United States celebrate the founding of LULAC during LULAC Week during the week that February 17 falls in. Many councils request their city, state or county to recognize National LULAC Week with a resolution that is presented during a council-sponsored activity. LULAC Week will take place on February 23-29, 2020 (See meeting dates). More details will be provided as planning begins.
BRING OUT YOUR BEST BANQUET
Lubbock’s LULAC Council annually celebrates its scholarship and awards banquet, themed “Bring out your Best”. The Lubbock LULAC Council 263 has awarded more than $734,000 in scholarships to students from the South Plains area. It is a partner with the LULAC National Scholarship Fund in Washington, D.C., which raises funds to match money raised by local councils. The 38th Annual Bring Out Your Best Scholarship Banquet will be held Sat., Feb. 29, 2020, at the MCM Elegante Hotel. A reception will begin at 6 p.m., with the banquet following at 7 p.m.
